I just finished an 11-hour shift at my day job. My voice is hoarse, my legs are heavy, and my arms are aching. I’m also more than a little stressed.
The stress has nothing to do with my job, though. It stems from this Substack publication.
We launched this Substack at the beginning of March with the goal of producing multiple articles a week. For the first few weeks we accomplished that goal — but lately we’ve fallen behind, and I don’t take that lightly. If you’re a paying subscriber, you deserve an explanation as to why our output has slowed over the past fortnight.
So let me explain.
March was arguably the busiest month in the Winston Smith Initiative’s short history. We kicked it off by launching this Substack. Our reason for doing so, in practical terms, was to lessen our reliance on fundraising. Our supporters were getting sick of being asked to donate — and frankly, we were getting sick of asking. We started writing articles because we wanted to give our followers something of value in exchange for their generous support.
But that wasn’t the only major development that occurred in early March. In the same week that this Substack went live, the Winston Smith Initiative became a full-fledged member of the Aligned Council of Australia, a coalition of grassroots organisations that has united to oppose the World Health Organisation’s so-called Pandemic Treaty. This treaty, if ratified, would empower the WHO to dictate Australia’s response to future “public health emergencies”. That would likely mean more mask mandates, vaccine passports and lockdowns, all authorised by faceless bureaucrats in Switzerland who do not have our country’s best interests at heart.
The Pandemic Treaty is due to be adopted at the 77th World Health Assembly at the end of May, so time is of the essence. The ACA has been working frantically behind the scenes to get everyone on the same page so that we can mount an effective resistance — and I’m pleased to announce that we’ve made significant progress. We’re on the cusp of launching a campaign that we hope will reach, and persuade, millions of Australians.
The Winston Smith Initiative will play an integral role in this effort. We’ve taken responsibility for the online component of the campaign: the websites, servers, and digital infrastructure. We’ll also be intimately involved in its promotion, fuelled in no small part by the donations that have been made to our fundraiser.
I’ve been burning the midnight oil for the past two weeks to make this happen. I don’t regret a single second that I’ve spent, because I wholeheartedly believe that this treaty needs to be opposed at all costs.
The downside, though, is that I haven’t had time to focus on Substack. I’ve made a conscious decision to prioritise the upcoming ACA campaign over the publication that you’re currently reading. I wish that I could give equal energy to both activities — but I can’t, and that’s why I’m taking this opportunity to apologise.
The ACA campaign will be launched within a fortnight. The readers of this publication will be among the first to know when it goes live; and when you see it, I trust that you’ll agree that our time has been well spent. The campaign is interactive, which means that all of you will have an opportunity to actively participate.
At risk of sounding like a customer service agent, I want to express my sincere appreciation for your patience and understanding while we burn through this workload. You can rest assured that we’re working harder than ever before — and when I say ‘we’, I speak not just of the Winston Smith Initiative, but of the Australian freedom movement as a whole.
Regards,
Joel Pryor (founder of the Winston Smith Initiative).
Vanessa said it well! You are legends imo! Go get em!!
For me absolutely no reason to apologise but thank you for the explanation. What you are doing is of the utmost importance and I thank you from the bottom of my heart
